For this project, students were instructed to choose an artist or band and design what the next cover of their album would be. For my project, I chose to design The Weeknd’s upcoming album. Being The Weeknd is a very conceptual artist, I wanted to construct album art that would be representative of his next potential concept. His most recent album, Dawn FM, follows the idea of being in some sort of purgatory and almost reaching the light at the end of the tunnel. Thus, I figured the next album concept would be about finally making it there and reaching heaven. That’s where the name “Celestial City” comes from! This project consists of a vinyl album cover and back, a VIP pass, and merchandise. The ultimate goal was to combine the hazy Weeknd aesthetic with a heavenly atmosphere, and I believe I was able to accomplish that!
